Conservatories, Orangeries & Extensions — Designed for York Homes

There is something about the quality of light in York that makes the idea of a conservatory or orangery feel particularly compelling. The wide, clear North Yorkshire sky — visible from the back gardens of Fulford and Bishopthorpe Road, from the generous plots of Dringhouses and Copmanthorpe, from the family gardens of Rawcliffe and Skelton — pours through glass in a way that fundamentally changes how the rooms that receive it feel. A well-designed conservatory or orangery in York isn’t simply an additional square footage — it becomes the room that the rest of the house organises itself around.

At Super Glazing, we specialise in conservatories York, conservatory roofs York, tiled conservatory roofs York, glass conservatory roofs York, orangeries York, and extensions York. We work with homeowners across York and North Yorkshire to design and install beautiful, energy-efficient living spaces that complement both traditional and modern properties.

The transformation that a quality tiled conservatory roofs York delivers is dramatic and measurable. The same glass structure — same footprint, same walls, same floor — becomes a properly insulated, acoustically comfortable room that holds its temperature across all twelve months of the North Yorkshire calendar. It becomes the kitchen extension that was always needed, the dining room that opens onto the garden, the home office with natural light that the spare bedroom never provided.

Super Glazing designs and builds conservatories, orangeries, tiled conservatory roofs, glass conservatory roofs, and single-storey extensions across York and all YO postcodes — YO10 (Fulford, Fishergate), YO19, YO23 (Bishopthorpe, Dringhouses), YO24 (Acomb, Woodthorpe, Chapelfields), YO26 (Rawcliffe, Skelton, Clifton), YO30 (Skelton Village, Rawcliffe Bank), and YO32 (Huntington, Strensall, New Earswick, Haxby). Our wider coverage includes Selby (YO8), Wetherby (LS22), Tadcaster (LS24), Harrogate (HG postcodes), Malton (YO17), Pickering (YO18), Leeds (LS), Wakefield (WF), and Hull (HU).

Good price, superior quality, I gave them a 2-month installation deadline, I told them there was no rush, but after a week and a half they came and installed 4 windows and one door at the entrance... the guys from the installation team were 10/10 professionalism... I highly recommend this company... they repaired the spot next to the window and door so you wouldn't even notice that work was done there.

Very happy with the Finnished product. Windows and doors are good quality. I also had lintels put in and the brickie did a good job also filling in some cracks. The window fitters all knew what they where doing and were professional, and give me good advice otherwise I could of potentially had a wall come down, hence I had lintels fitted. Sue the salesman was brilliant 👏 very friendly and knowledgeable. No aggressive sales pitch. I had a couple of little issues at the end but these were sorted within 24hrs. Overall I'm a happy customer 😊 ☺️ 😌 Brilliant job 👏 👍 👌

Over the moon with our new doors and windows. Such a quick turnaround as well! All the staff I dealt with were brilliant from Aaron who came to measure up and provide the quote - talking us through the process and giving us options without being remotely pushy, to Craig and the lads who came and did a stellar job of fitting everything - really polite, friendly and hard working people. I would absolutely recommend Super Glazing in future.

I highly recommend Super Glazing. They have just completed work on my house replacing 7 windows plus a 4 window bay, a tiled over bay and door canopy and guttering to my large conservatory. The quality of products used is superb and the workmanship is excellent. I am highly delighted with the look, finish and attention to detail. From initial quotation by Aaron through to completion by the installation team took less than 3 weeks as I needed a quick turnaround. Everything was explained to me in detail by Aaron and the surveyors and carried out by Steve, Liam and James to the highest standard. Mike from the office followed up by making sure I was completely happy with the job. Super Glazing offer a value for money, quality service with friendliness, professionalism and efficiency.

The staff were friendly, helpful and took the time to explain everything clearly, which made the whole process stress-free. The quality of the windows and doors is outstanding and the workmanship during installation was excellent. You can really tell they take pride in what they do. York Conservation Areas & Listed Buildings

York has one of the country’s most extensive collections of conservation areas and historic buildings. For properties located within conservation areas or subject to listed building requirements, we carefully consider design, colour, roof style, and external appearance before making recommendations. Our team provides practical guidance throughout the planning process to ensure your new conservatory or orangery complements your property while meeting any applicable planning requirements.

Homeowners Ask About Conservatories, Orangeries & Extensions

Yes — Selby (YO8), Wetherby (LS22), Tadcaster (LS24), Harrogate and the wider HG postcode area, Malton (YO17), and Pickering (YO18) are all within our regular North Yorkshire working region. Leeds (LS postcodes), Wakefield (WF), and Hull (HU) are also covered as part of our broader operational area. If you’re in a location between these areas and unsure about coverage, call us and we will confirm for your specific address and postcode.

For south and west-facing York conservatory roofs — which receive the most direct sun across the North Yorkshire summer — solar-control glass with a low solar factor coating is strongly recommended. This glass significantly reduces the amount of solar heat gain through the roof while maintaining good light transmission. For north and east-facing York conservatories where warmth retention is the priority over solar control, low-emissivity (low-E) glass in an A-rated insulated unit delivers the best combination of winter warmth and daylight. Self-cleaning coatings are worth considering for any York conservatory roof plane that is difficult to access for cleaning — the photocatalytic surface works in daylight and is rinsed clean by rainfall, reducing the frequency of manual cleaning substantially.

In almost all cases, yes — particularly in North Yorkshire’s climate. The comfort difference between a glass or polycarbonate roof and a tiled warm roof system is immediately apparent and applies across the full year: warm enough to use through October to April, cool enough to be comfortable through June to August, and quiet enough that a North Yorkshire downpour doesn’t interrupt conversation or television. Most York homeowners who install a tiled conservatory roof tell us they wish they had done it several years earlier. The conversion typically takes one to two days for a standard structure and, unlike the original conservatory build, almost always falls within permitted development without requiring planning permission.

A standard uPVC Lean-To or Victorian conservatory on an existing concrete base in York typically takes three to five working days to install once the foundation is confirmed and frames are delivered. More complex builds — P-Shape, T-Shape, or large Edwardian conservatories — may take five to eight days. Orangeries, which involve masonry work as well as frame and glazing installation, typically take one to two weeks. Single-storey extensions take two to four weeks depending on specification. We confirm the specific programme for your York project in the written quote and maintain that programme.

A conservatory has a predominantly glazed roof — typically 75% or more glass or tiled glazing system — with dwarf walls or full-height glazed frames. An orangery has solid masonry or brick pillars and a solid parapet wall at eaves level, with a central lantern or glazed roof section rather than a fully glazed pitch. The practical differences are significant: an orangery has more thermal mass, performs better in both winter and summer comfort terms, has better acoustic performance, and reads architecturally as more of a room addition and less of a glass box. The trade-off is cost — orangeries are typically more expensive than conservatories of the same footprint — and they suit properties with the space and the architectural scale to carry the additional mass. We discuss which is right for your specific York property at the free survey.
