Sash windows from Super Glazing combine classic period style with modern double glazing, made to measure for homes across Barnsley and Yorkshire.
Sash windows are made of one or more panels, called sashes, that slide up and down within the frame instead of swinging open. They have been a feature of British homes for over 300 years, and their elegant proportions still suit everything from Georgian townhouses to modern new builds.
Today’s uPVC versions keep that traditional look but add double glazing, modern locks and smooth spiral balances, so they are warmer, quieter and easier to live with than old timber sashes. Whether you’re replacing tired, draughty windows or want the sash look on a newer home, we’ll help you choose the right design. You can also browse our full range of windows.
Sliding sashes first appeared in England in the late 17th century, as glass-making improved and larger panes became affordable. The double-hung sash, where both sashes slide vertically, became the standard through the 18th and 19th centuries, and you can still see original examples on period streets across Yorkshire.
Sashes come in a wide range of styles, so you can match the character of your property. Popular options include:

Good price, superior quality, I gave them a 2-month installation deadline, I told them there was no rush, but after a week and a half they came and installed 4 windows and one door at the entrance... the guys from the installation team were 10/10 professionalism... I highly recommend this company... they repaired the spot next to the window and door so you wouldn't even notice that work was done there.Posted on Google![]()

Very happy with the Finnished product. Windows and doors are good quality. I also had lintels put in and the brickie did a good job also filling in some cracks. The window fitters all knew what they where doing and were professional, and give me good advice otherwise I could of potentially had a wall come down, hence I had lintels fitted. Sue the salesman was brilliant 👏 very friendly and knowledgeable. No aggressive sales pitch. I had a couple of little issues at the end but these were sorted within 24hrs. Overall I'm a happy customer 😊 ☺️ 😌 Brilliant job 👏 👍 👌Posted on Google![]()

Over the moon with our new doors and windows. Such a quick turnaround as well! All the staff I dealt with were brilliant from Aaron who came to measure up and provide the quote - talking us through the process and giving us options without being remotely pushy, to Craig and the lads who came and did a stellar job of fitting everything - really polite, friendly and hard working people. I would absolutely recommend Super Glazing in future.Posted on Google![]()

I highly recommend Super Glazing. They have just completed work on my house replacing 7 windows plus a 4 window bay, a tiled over bay and door canopy and guttering to my large conservatory. The quality of products used is superb and the workmanship is excellent. I am highly delighted with the look, finish and attention to detail. From initial quotation by Aaron through to completion by the installation team took less than 3 weeks as I needed a quick turnaround. Everything was explained to me in detail by Aaron and the surveyors and carried out by Steve, Liam and James to the highest standard. Mike from the office followed up by making sure I was completely happy with the job. Super Glazing offer a value for money, quality service with friendliness, professionalism and efficiency.Posted on Google![]()

I cannot recommend Super Glazing Windows enough. From start to finish the whole experience was professional, smooth, and extremely well organised. The staff were friendly, helpful and took the time to explain everything clearly, which made the whole process stress-free. The quality of the windows and doors is outstanding and the workmanship during installation was excellent. You can really tell they take pride in what they do. I was so pleased with the results that I’ve already gone back and purchased more, and I’ve recommended them to several friends as well. If you’re looking for a reliable company that provides high-quality products with fantastic customer service, Super Glazing Windows are definitely the company to use. Sliding sashes are usually described by the number of panes in each sash. A “6 over 1” window, for example, has six smaller panes in the top sash and one large pane in the bottom. We can make yours in the layout and glazing bar design that best suits your home.

Georgian sashes date from 1714 to 1830, the reigns of George I to George IV. They feature several small panes divided by slim glazing bars, typically in a six over six arrangement. Over time the glazing bars became thinner, allowing larger panes and clearer views. Sash horns were not usually used on Georgian windows.
During the Victorian era (1837 to 1901), larger and cheaper sheets of glass meant fewer glazing bars, often a simple two over two or one over one layout. Victorian sashes often featured decorative horns, arched heads and ornate mouldings, and were commonly grouped together in bay windows.

Traditionally, sashes were made from timber. Today, most homeowners choose uPVC, which gives the same classic appearance without the upkeep. At Super Glazing we specialise in uPVC sash windows, and here’s how the two materials compare.
Timber sashes look authentic, but they need regular sanding, painting and maintenance to stop them rotting, sticking or rattling. Older timber sashes are often draughty and costly to heat, and new timber windows are usually much more expensive to buy.
uPVC sashes give you the traditional look with modern performance. Spiral balances keep the sashes sliding smoothly, double glazing keeps heat in and noise out, and secure locking keeps your home safe. They never need painting, won’t rot or warp, and are available in a range of colours and woodgrain finishes that closely resemble real wood. For most homes, uPVC is the best-value choice.
Choosing Super Glazing brings real everyday benefits:
We supply and fit made-to-measure uPVC sash windows for homes in Barnsley, Sheffield, Leeds, Wakefield, Doncaster and across Yorkshire. As a FENSA-registered installer, we register every qualifying replacement, so you receive a certificate confirming the work meets Building Regulations.
Every installation is backed by our 10-year guarantee and our Price Promise, and you can read what homeowners say about us in our Google reviews.
Sash windows slide up and down within the frame, while casement windows are hinged and open outwards like a door. They suit period properties and keep a traditional look, and because they don’t swing out they work well next to paths and patios. Casement windows are simpler and often a little cheaper. We fit both, so we can advise what suits your home best.
Usually yes, but if your home is listed or in a conservation area, check with your local council first, as you may need permission to change the style of your windows. Some councils accept uPVC sashes in conservation areas, while listed buildings usually need timber. The Planning Portal has helpful guidance.
Yes. Ours are double glazed, giving you the classic sash look with far better insulation, noise reduction and security than old single-glazed sashes.
The price depends on the size, style, number of windows, glazing bars and colour you choose. Because every window is made to measure, the best way to get an accurate price is a free, no-obligation quote. We’ll measure up and give you a clear price with no hidden extras, backed by our Price Promise.
Very little. uPVC doesn’t need painting and won’t rot. Just wipe the frames with warm soapy water a few times a year and keep the tracks free of dirt so the sashes keep running smoothly.
